A guessing game I overheard between J & L while driving to a recent worship service...
J: What is a game you like to play with daddy that start with a "T". L: uuuhhhmmm J: It starts with a "T". L: uuuhhhmmm (Dad gets L's attention and shows the tickle fingers) L: Tickle monster!!! J: Yes!
L: J, what is a game you like to play with daddy that starts with an "E". J (confused) L: Do you know, J? J: Wall ball? L: Yes!
L (walking into the living room with a sad expression): My feelings are hurt. Dad: Who hurt your feelings, L? L: I did. I can't find my baby pony. (slowly begins to cry)
L (crying after being yelled at by J during breakfast): J hurt my feelings. Dad: J, can you please apologize to your sister and ask her to forgive you for yelling at her? J (reluctant, but obeys and apologizes and asks for forgiveness and then gives his sister a hug) L: My feelings feel better!
A friend of ours is about to get some crowns put on his teeth. Somehow this came up during a recent dinner conversation. L asked why he was getting crowns put on his teach. As I tried to explain, her puzzled expression showed me what we both were picturing: the dentist placing crowns like those worn by a king on his teeth. The whole family got a good chuckle.
We've been spending some time on the farm with grandpa & grandma lately. Last week L & I were out in the backyard watching the sheep graze. After picking a few rotten apples off the tree and ground and throwing them out into the pasture, I picked up a few good apples that had fallen off to bring in for others to enjoy. Before heading inside, I got L's attention and proceeded to juggle the apples for a few moments before they fell to ground.
L paused for a moment and said, "Dad, you're not very good at that."
Like a breath of fresh air is the blunt honesty of children.
